Tūhoe descend from Pōtiki and from Toroa, and from the first peoples of Te Urewera, born of the union between Hinepūkohurangi, the mist maiden, and Te Maunga, the mountain. We have never surrendered that beginning. This is where we tell our story in our own words: whārua by whārua, whare by whare, generation by generation.
